I began a read aloud group in my neighborhood and stared with this so that the kids could gain an appreciation for 1 the original story and 2 the concept of American fairy tales. I ran into the rigidity of how fundamentalist Christianity sects use term; such as the difference between a LIAR and a humbug.

It made for quite an interesting summer. In a whole excellent and magical. It is truly amazing that these srories, places, and characters still hold up after all these years. Make everyone you know man, woman, and child read all of Baums work they will thank you for it.

I checked an Oz book out of the public library once a week for over a year -- couldn't get enough of the adventures! Baum was a wonderful children's writer -- scary, but not too scary, thrilling, entertaining, and funny. Great reading for story lovers. It's a long read, but great to escape into a fantasy world sometimes. One of my favorite series.

I love Baum so much for every word written in these books. Recommended for anyone and everyone with a sense of imagination and wonder. Adventure, tragedy, overcoming situations, wonderful character building.

Baum is with you every step of the way. This book is part of my plan to go back in time and reread some of my favorite books as an adult. Still love the series. Most people have only read or know the Wizard of Oz, but there is so much more to the OZ universe. Still so enjoyable and fun! The more books I read, the more disturbed I was by Baum's efforts to hide his racism. Having read them as a child, I saw none of it, of course. Taking a fresh look would make me hope that my grandchildren never read them.

Fun and important to read, completely different from the movie. If your only connection to the wonderful land of Oz is a movie starring Judy Garland, you are missing out. I loved these books when I was in junior high.

Hope you enjoy them, too! Simply because although I can perform daily online research related to Oz books, I am not able to actually visit every antique store, used book store, local auction, book fare, garage sale, estate sale, etc. It is simply humanly impossible to do. That is where each of you come in, in your individual geographic location, with your willingness to embark on this journey.

By placing free classified ads in your local papers, by going to various local auctions, by scanning the papers for promising estate sales, you may be able to find that elusive Oz book that you can sell at a nice profit. You may ask: how do I know if this book is worth something?
